Empowering families through
education
Learn the importance of myofunctional therapy and how it can benefit you and your family.
What is myofunctional therapy?
Myofunctional therapy is a gentle, exercise-based program that helps retrain the muscles of the mouth, tongue, and face to work the way they’re meant to. These simple, fun exercises can improve breathing, swallowing, chewing, and even sleep. Many families find that therapy not only helps with habits like mouth breathing or tongue thrust, but also supports better focus, energy, and overall health. It’s a natural, non-invasive way to create lasting changes that benefit children, teens, and adults alike.
-
Mouth breathing – relying on the mouth instead of the nose for breathing.
Tongue thrust – pushing the tongue forward during swallowing or speech.
Open mouth posture – lips apart, tongue resting low, rather than resting on the palate.
Thumb or finger sucking habits – prolonged sucking habits that affect oral development.
Low tongue posture – tongue resting on the bottom of the mouth instead of the roof.
Difficulty chewing or swallowing – inefficient or uncoordinated patterns.
Speech concerns – lisping or other articulation issues related to tongue placement.
Snoring, teeth grinding or sleep-disordered breathing – disruptions in breathing during rest.
-
Myofunctional therapy is tailored to each person’s unique needs. Treatment usually involves a series of simple, fun exercises designed to strengthen and retrain the muscles of the mouth, tongue, and face.
Infant assessments and treatments
While I do not provide treatment for infants, I am able to assess babies for tongue, lip, and buccal ties. If a concern is identified, I can refer you to a qualified doctor who can provide the appropriate care. This allows families to get expert guidance early, ensuring healthy oral development from the start.
